Brahms: Piano Sonata no.2 in F sharp minor op.2
Ravel: La Valse
Junyan Chen was runner-up in the 2024 Leeds Piano competition and we are delighted to welcome her back after her stunning debut for us in 2025. Junyan's programme features two of Maurice Ravel’s masterpieces for the piano; Le tombeau de Couperin inspired by French baroque music and dedicated to friends who fell during WWI, and La Valse conceived as a homage to Johann Strauss and depicts the birth, growth and destruction of Viennese Imperial society through the medium of the waltz. Placed alongside the introspective purity of Bach’s 6th Partita and the passionate, virtuosic demands of Brahms’ 2nd Sonata this concert is a must for piano aficionados.
